Danube Island Festival

A ray of hope for the start of summer: The 39th Danube Island Festival – Europe's biggest open-air party with free admission – will be held as before, without coronavirus restrictions.

#dif22 district tour to kick things off

The event in 2022 begins with the #dif22 district tour, on which the #dif22 VeloStage (a bicycle stage, entirely climate-neutral) makes a stop in all of Vienna's 23 districts with pop-up concerts from June 1 to 23, and brings the festival directly to the people. The tour is opened on June 1 by DJ David Jerina and Anna Buchegger; the final act before the festival weekend is Pippa on June 23. The artists on the VeloStage are 100 percent Austrian. Detailed program

14 islands – 11 stages – 600 hours of acts

The festival weekend from June 24 to 26 turns Danube Island into a packed party zone for three whole days. This year, the program on the eleven stages again includes international acts – like Jan Delay and Nico Santos from Germany, the DJanes Mattn from Belgium and B Jones from Ibiza, Johnny Logan from Ireland as well as English-born James Cottriall – now a Viennese by choice.

The line-up of Austrian artists includes Marina & the Kats, Lylit, Peter Cornelius, Wiener Wahnsinn, Hot Pants Road Club, Niddl, Nadine Beiler, Ernst Molden, and Ursula Strauss.

Variety is lived on the various stages – thus the Wienerlied and 'schrammel' music are represented with their own heuriger island on Danube Island this year for the first time. The curator is the expert and connoisseur Agnes Palmisano. She has invited, for example, Bravour Schrammeln, Diem/Stickler as well as Skero and the Müßig Gang. The wine to accompany the music comes from Viennese vintners – Vienna produces top wines!

By the way, half of the packed 600-hour program is performed by women.

Action, fun, join in

Away from the stages, the Danube Island Festival invites all visitors to join in – with activities including the Sport Island, the Action & Fun Island, the #dif22 puzzle rally or at the crafting stations at the pop-up creative market. A large number of street artists perform across Danube Island. And the children's and family program is also quite impressive.

Motto #DreamTeamWIEN

The Danube Island Festival is all about social cohesion, modern Vienna, and treating each other with respect. A strong sign for peace and for solidarity with Ukraine is given by performing artists, the possibility to donate the cup deposit, and a large sea of lights on the Friday evening.
