Tips from our editorial team: here we’ll reveal – in a nutshell – our favorite events and most beautiful Strauss locations in fall and winter, all centered around Strauss’ birthday. After all, the options are endless – throughout the Strauss anniversary year there will be a different Strauss production premiering every week, and many of the venues are historic Strauss-sites.

  1. MusikTheater an der Wien: Strauss’ operetta Die Fledermaus returns to its original premiere venue (October 4–10, 2025)
  2. Eine Nacht in Venedig at the Vienna Volksoper(October 25 – December 19, 2025)
  3. 200th Birthday of Johann Strauss II (10/25/2025): Birthday ceremony at Vienna City Hall, with the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the Vienna Music Society (limited tickets available)
  4. Die Fledermaus – Ballet by Roland Petit at the Vienna State Opera (November 18 – December 13, 2025)
  5. FLEDER.STRAUSS: Performance at the Odeon Theater – warning: eccentric! (November 25 – December 31, 2025)
  6. Imperial Ball at MuseumsQuartier (Hall E): Guest performance by the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, directed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (December 3 – 6, 2025)
  7. Shadow of Doubt – Inside the Mind of the Genius (January 3 – December 31, 2025) – artistically designed escape room
  8. Die Fledermaus: traditionally the year-end finale at State Opera and Volksoper
  9. By(e) Strauss at MusikTheater an der Wien – the grand finale of the anniversary year

Exhibitions and Strauss Sites

  1. House of Strauss: Strauss Center with museum and concerts. Historic Strauss performance venue.
  2. Immerse yourself in the new high-tech multimedia experience Johann Strauss. Dive into New Dimensions.
  3. Johann Strauss Apartment on Praterstraße: An original Strauss site preserved with plenty of flair
  4. At the House of Music, conduct the Blue Danube Waltz with the “Virtual Conductor.”
  5. Strauss Monument Photo spot: The golden statue in the green Stadtpark is a must-see.
  6. Johann-Strauss’-GraveA final resting place next to many other music stars. There is much more to discover at the Central Cemetery: Nature, architecture, Funeral Museum, coffeehouse…
