The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Vienna’s 3rd district was built between 1893 and 1899 based on plans by Grigori Kotow and under the direction of Luigi Giacomelli. It is regarded as one of the most important examples of late historicist Russian-Byzantine architecture in Austria.

The cathedral is the seat of the Russian Orthodox parish of St. Nicholas in Vienna and of the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Vienna and Austria.

Opening times

  • Mo - Fr, 10:00 - 18:00
  • Sa, 08:30 - 19:30
  • Su, 08:30 - 18:00

The opening hours apply to the Upper Church. The Lower Church is open on weekdays from 7.30 to 10.00 am and on Sundays from 7.00 to 10:30 am.

Guided tours

Guided tours of the cathedral are offered between 2.00 and 4.00 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tours are available for individual visitors as well as for groups and are conducted in the following languages: German, Russian, English, French, Italian, and Polish.
