Viennese art comeback

The SPARK Art Fair at the Marx Halle at the end of June is a new international fair format for contemporary art. Renger van den Heuvel, the former managing director of viennacontemporary, has opted for the concept of solo presentations – i.e. one representative per participating gallery. In addition, there are three curated sections on the topics of digital art, modern art of the post-war period, and international highlights. The SPARK Studio enables a virtual look at the participating artists and their work in advance.

Also new is Art at the Park – The art fair in the Goldenes Quartier. It will be held on the first floor of the elegant Park Hyatt Vienna – in the boardroom, the Grand Salon, and the foyers. A total of 18 art dealers and gallery owners offer impressive artworks from various periods and genres for sale – such as by Banksy, Xenia Hausner, and Maria Lassnig. Handy: you can use an app to scan the works with your smartphone or simply browse them at your leisure.

The same organizer, art-port GmbH, presents Art Austria 2021 in the middle of June. On a total area of 2,000 square meters, artworks will be presented in an air conditioned marquee in the Main Courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier, as well as at the MQ Ovalhalle and the MQ Arena 21. Forty selected artists will show over 1,000 works, from Classic Modernism through contemporary art. A sculpture presentation rounds off the program. In the future, Art Austria will be held twice a year – in addition to the established format in June, the Art Austria Highlights will be held for the first time in October, also in the MuseumsQuartier.

Parallel Vienna is also represented with a new spring concept: in addition to the autumn fair (this time at the beginning of September due to Art Basel), the Parallel Vienna Editions will be held for the first time. A new format that focuses on editions, graphics, multiples, small sculptures, objects, sculptures, and art books – at the end of May in the Studio Building of the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna (the former Semperdepot) in the 6th district.

The traditional art and antiques fair wikam, which has been firmly established for over 40 years, makes a comeback in June with a special format at Palais Ferstel: paintings and sculptures by Austrian artists of the 20th and 21st centuries are presented, as is precious jewelry and high-quality furniture.

Note: All art fairs are held in compliance with the current official COVID regulations. Please make inquiries about prevailing circumstances before your visit.
