Other than the Brunnenmarkt, the Kutschkermarkt is the last remaining street market in Vienna. This friendly market is worth a visit, especially on Saturdays. Farmers from the surrounding area, who sell their regional products here - often of organic quality - are among the ranks of the fixed market booths. The products on offer at the Kutschkermarkt are extremely varied and of very high quality, and include fruit, vegetables, bread, fish, cheese, wine, juices and preserves. Here and there, florists create a colorful market scene.
The 18th district is middle-class in nature, similar to the people who visit the Kutschkermarkt. Many young families with children can be seen here due to the immediately adjacent playground that can clearly be seen from many tables at the market. The food outlets are above all known for their exclusive delicacies. Mayr Delicacies is one of the first addresses in Vienna when it comes to cheese. The wine, sausages and bread that are sold here are also of top quality. There's also food to be had: a sensational breakfast, a set menu at lunchtime, as well as a wide selection of cheese dishes, egg variations and antipasti for on the go.
Takan's Delicacies is also a hit. Suat Takan serves excellent wines inside and in front of his market booth to go with the great antipasti, fruit de mer and fish specialties. It's unbelievable what is served up here in this super-tiny space. Much the same is true at Atlantis Fish, where grilled specialties can be enjoyed. It's like being instantly transported to Southern Europe. The aromas that emanate from the place as you pass by are so wonderful that you want to step right on in. The booth by the name of Weltmeister Kebap, which has since mutated into a butcher, offers kebabs with top-quality meat.
Oan at the Kutschkermarkt stands for organic and natural. There's vegetarian cuisine made with organic ingredients here, the lunch menu changes daily. Right on the Kutschkermarkt, but not in a market booth, is Café Himmelblau. The cozy café has a light, friendly atmosphere that is a little reminiscent of a dollhouse. The Himmelblau also has a good breakfast menu, lunch menu and small snacks for on the go. Also worth recommending are the home-made cakes and tarts.
The most recent new addition to the Kutschkermarkt is Cafébrennerei Franze. In the tasteful café, there is excellent coffee from the on-site roast house and tea specialties from around the world in organic and Fairtrade quality, which can be purchased or enjoyed on the premises. Breakfast is also a big deal here. In good weather, people can sit on the window benches in front of the establishment - very relaxing!
