Morning: Breakfast and fresh ice

Breakfast at magdas Lokal is the best way to start the cool day. Lots of organic, seasonal, and Fairtrade products and very little meat are on the well assorted menu. By visiting here, you are also supporting a social concept: Both magdas Lokal and magdas Hotel are run as social businesses – people with a refugee background are trained by professionals and made fit for the labor market. 

"You should walk 1,000 steps after a meal": On a short stroll through the courtyard of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, you can listen to the students practicing. However, the walk's destination is the Vienna Ice Skating Club next to the Wiener Konzerthaus. There's fun here for young and old – and everyone in between – on over 6,000 square meters of ice.

Afternoon: Culture and cuisine from Austria

Almost everything in Vienna can be reached on foot – including our two museum tips for the afternoon: After a few minutes' walk through Vienna city center, you reach the House of Music. The name says it all here: On four floors, you'll find countless multimedia stations and modernly prepared information on Mozart, Beethoven, and others. On the top floor, you can even try your hand at being a virtual conductor of the actual Vienna Philharmonic.

Alternatively: The Jewish Museum and the Judenplatz Museum recount the history of Viennese Jews in exciting permanent and special exhibitions. One admission ticket is valid for both museums – perhaps you'll even manage that in one afternoon?

Whether schnitzel, Tafelspitz (traditional fillet of boiled beef) or roast calf's liver – the hearty Viennese cuisine is perfectly suited for winter. The best places to go for this are Gastwirtschaft Huth or Magazin, both of which are handily located in the district we've been leading you through the whole day. What's more, both restaurants serve delicious Kaiserschmarren pancakes.

Evening: St. Stephen's Cathedral and pool boat

It is now dark in Vienna. Many inner city buildings radiate a quite different light by night – in the truest sense of the word. Thanks to the sophisticated lighting, you can easily spot many details on the façade of St. Stephen's Cathedral even without the sun. Now stroll along Rotenturmstrasse, one of Vienna's most popular walking areas, down to the Danube Canal.

The pool boat is a popular location to go swimming in summer. Ice swimming is also possible in winter – but that's not why we're sending you here. There are six curling available on the deck until the end of March – as well as punch to warm you up. And perhaps some of you will still jump into the four-degree Celsius water of the pool after such a perfect winter's day.
