Experiences: working down a mine, high-voltage and a steam locomotive
The guided tour through the demonstration mine (the oldest in Europe!) is a journey through time: visitors can see at first hand how hard the work was 100 years ago. The jackhammer still works.
The high-voltage demonstration reveals the mysteries of charges, currents and electromagnetic fields. You will be amazed at the flashes of lightning and how your hair stands on end!
“Stand clear of the doors!” says the famous cutaway locomotive. It carried passengers across Austria more than a hundred years ago. Today, it offers insights into the inner workings of a steam locomotive in the Museum of Science and Technology.
minTi, miniXplore, techLAB: tips for families
Many of the experiments and interactive objects, which focus on the principle of cause and effect, are fun even for the youngest children. The Museum of Science and Technology is a very family-friendly establishment:
at minTi, the youngest children (1.5 to 5 years) can learn about locomotion, building and mobility (with tricycles, wheelbarrows, a rocking boat and a large climb-on fire engine).
In the 500 m² miniXplore discovery area, the emphasis is on playful hands-on activities. Children between the ages of three and eight and their parents or guardians can explore STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) without the need for an instruction manual and with lots of fun and excitement.
The techLAB at the Museum of Science and Technology invites older children, teenagers and adults to undertake their own projects. Discover how to pre-program on a PC, a workbench with a 3D printer and a cutting plotter, a laser cutter and a transfer press.
Birdly VR flying experience
An impressive virtual reality experience lets you explore cities, underwater worlds and the age of dinosaurs in a moving full-body experience. The Museum of Science and Technology makes the dream of flying come true for visitors aged 10 and above.
