Follow in the footsteps of the Eurovision Song Contest with ivie
After 1967 and 2015, the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will take the stage in Austria’s capital for the third time, and over the years it has left many marks on the city. Numerous locations in Vienna are reminders of previous ESC events or are connected to Austrian ESC winners.
However, the world’s largest music competition has also left its mark on public spaces, as evidenced by unique traffic lights. The ESC is even a major theme in some of Vienna’s museums. The ESC History Guide introduces you to eight places where the Eurovision Song Contest is present.
Discover 8 locations all over Vienna
One of the locations for ESC fans in Vienna in 2026 is the House of Austrian History, a contemporary history museum where, alongside Conchita Wurst’s winning dress from 2014, you can discover many other ESC artifacts, such as a Conchita doll that carries a clear message. The guide also takes you to the Hofburg Vienna, which hosted the Song Contest in 1967. Today, the venue is one of Vienna’s most important convention centers.
Also included is the intersection where the first traffic-light couple was installed in 2015 as part of an initiative that playfully calls for more tolerance in public spaces. Also on the list is Vienna City Hall Square (Rathausplatz), the location of the Eurovision Village in 2015 and 2026. And of course, the Wiener Stadthalle must not be missed. The ESC final shows took place here back in 2015.
The ESC History Guide also takes you to Udo Jürgens’ grave at the Vienna Central Cemetery. In 1966, Jürgens gave Austria its first win in the music competition. And if you want to know which opera stage Song Contest winner Johannes Pietsch, aka JJ, regularly performed on and where he studied, look no further. These are the locations to discover:
- House of Austrian History
- Hofburg Vienna
- Traffic-light couple
- Eurovision Village
- Wiener Stadthalle
- Udo Jürgens’ grave
- Vienna State Opera
- MUK – Music and Arts Private University
