Concert calendar of the Vienna Music Society

A harmony of trumpet and organ

Masterpieces of Viennese classical music and traditional Christmas carols sound particularly festive on brass instruments. The Trompetenzauber im Advent concert series in the baroque Annakirche offers exactly this kind of festive musical experience. (Fri, Sat & Sun, November 29 – December 23)

Trumpets in Concert – A very special Christmas: Festive Baroque music, church music and cheerful Christmas carols will be performed on trumpet and organ in the Minorite Church (December 14, 18, and 21).

Concerts in St. Stephen’s Cathedral

The musicians of the Harmonia Ensemble Wien will perform soprano and baritone solos in a tranquil chamber music format on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (November 28 – December 23) in Vienna’s most famous church, St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral is also the venue for a highlight of the Christmas concert season: The Vienna Symphony Orchestra will give its Vienna Advent concert on December 11, alongside the Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde choir and vocal soloists. The evening is a musical winter journey through European music history.

More church concerts

The Capuchin Church also hosts Advent concerts every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during Advent. The Wiener Kaiserquartett and solo vocals, along with a program of the most beautiful Christmas carols and festive music, set the mood for the Christmas season (Nov 27-Dec 30).

On November 30, the Hofburg Chapel will be the venue for the Advent concert by Chorus Viennensis, the male choir of the former Vienna Boys’ Choir.

Christmas spirit will come to the Lutheran City Church on December 3 in a musical journey through the magical moments of the Christmas season, combining classical music and soul with light, visuals, installations and music. Featuring opera singers Daniel Gutmann and Amelie Hois, as well as the soulful voice of Cesár Sampson.

Christmas at the House of Strauss

In the last remaining Strauss concert hall at the House of Strauss, waltzes, polkas, and festive Christmas classics will be performed during the Christmas Concert Nights in incomparable acoustics. A champagne reception and admission to the Strauss Dynasty Museum are included. Those who wish can round off the evening with an exquisite multi-course menu in the in-house restaurant Simon. (Dec 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28)

Boys’ Choirs & Singing

Singing is a major attraction in the world capital of music. The Vienna Boys’ Choir will perform their advent concert series Gute Hirten (Good Shepherds) from December 5 to 9 in their acoustically stunning hall at the MuTh. The program would not be complete without the carol “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night).

At the Odeon on December 2, everyone is invited to join the MitSingKonzert zimt with Chorus sine nomine, led by Johannes Hiemetsberger, and sing along to the most beautiful Christmas carols – with no sheet music but plenty of passion.

Shows at the Stadthalle

A Christmas program ranging from swing to pop to musicals can be experienced at the Vienna Stadthalle:

  • The Nutcracker (Nov 23 and Dec 14)

  • The Gerberhaus Christmas Gala “It’s Christmastime”, featuring swinging, world-famous Christmas classics in a large musical lineup (Dec 10)

  • The Grand Christmas Gala of Musical Stars (Dec 13)

  • Christmas with Wanda – 2025 (Dec 19)

Powerful gospel

The rich voices of the US ensemble The Christmas Gospel will bring pure gospel power to St. Charles Church. Classics such as “Oh Happy Day” and “Amazing Grace” as well as modern soul ballads will be performed with wholehearted passion and energy. (5., 6., 12., 13., 19., 20., 21.12.)

Christmas done differently

High-quality show entertainment and the latest best-of programs will be the hallmarks of the Wintertainment 2025 festival. Music, theater, cabaret, variety and comedy are combined to create a varied series of performances. Christmas elements are incorporated – although subtly and without kitsch. If you are looking for alternatives to traditional Advent concerts, head to the Theater am Spittelberg (Dec 8-23).

Musical Advent Calendar

Here is something very Viennese and special: the Musical Advent Calendar (MUAD) opens cultural-musical calendar doors in all 23 districts of Vienna. On December 1 in the 1st district, on December 2 in the 2nd and so on. The venues are small and exciting, the formats refreshing. There is a wealth of Viennese music to discover! (Dec. 1 to 23)

Jazzy Christmas at the Porgy

Things will be getting Christmassy in Vienna’s jazz club too: at Porgy & Bess, even the Christ child can listen in when Slavko Ninic & the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle perform. They’ll be broadcasting a Christmas Special on Christmas Eve, which is guaranteed to be lively and original. Here’s a tip from us: the Porgy & Bess streams its concerts!

And even more music...

Christmas will come alive in all its forms at the Metropol cabaret theater, with Christmas sounds ranging from country, rock, swing and jazz to Irish music and even a drag show.

At Globe Wien, there will be humorous musical Christmas specials with Conchita Wurst (Dec 13), Gery Seidl (“Aufputzt is – Ein Weihnachtsdebakel”, Dec 6 and 7), Lydia Prenner (“Leise pieselt da Reh”, Dec 11), Omar Sarsam (“Oh du Andere”, Dec 14), Mark Seibert (Dec 21), and Simone Koopmajer & Viktor Gernot & Guests (Dec 22).
