Inside the trendy restaurant Motto

Thell

The Thell is perhaps the ultimate happening place in Vienna – and has been for 50 years. Since its founding in 1973, and previously known as the Motto, the Thell really is a trendy restaurant on the scene. To mark its 50th anniversary, the Motto was renamed Thell, after its founder Franz Thell.

Behind the nondescript metal door there is a smartly designed restaurant offering sophisticated dining as well as a popular trendy bar. The raw industrial charm of unrendered walls meets comfy, upholstered benches in a rich green tone to create an interesting visual mix.

Apart from its impressive interior, the Thell is also known for its kitchen, which stays open after midnight. Night-owls love to drop by here for the legendary steak tartare or the baked ham pasta. The menu offers classic Austrian dishes alongside selected highlights from a wide variety of the world’s cuisines. The colorfully mixed crowd is served drinks and cocktails at the stylish bar, behind which a DJ often serves the best sounds. In summer, the pretty garden in the inner courtyard is also worth a look.
