Metro Kinokulturhaus

The heart of the new Metro Kinokulturhaus is a historic, heritage listed cinema auditorium dating to 1893, which was converted into a theater in 1924. With its wood paneling and red interior, it ranks among the most beautiful cinemas in Vienna nowadays. From the spacious foyer, visitors can look into the auditorium through a glass wall.

The two floors directly above the cinema have been developed into the Kinokulturhaus following extensive remodeling work. The 500 m² exhibition space is used for temporary exhibitions on the topic of film and cinematic history, also linked to retrospectives and film events.

On the first floor, there is an additional new cinema auditorium with 49 seats, named after the film producer Eric Pleskow, who hails from Vienna. To go with Vienna as a city of film, the aim is to make the topic of film and cinema visible in the Metro Kinokulturhaus in historical, cultural and social terms by organizing changing exhibitions. At the same time, Filmarchiv Austria (Austrian Film Archive) has the opportunity to present its activities here.
