Künstlerhaus
New old splendor
It is a place for exchanging ideas, discussing and communicating contemporary art. And the name says it all, because the Künstlerhaus is made by and for artists. After a three-year closure for refurbishment, it reopened on Karlsplatz at the beginning of 2020 and, in addition to exhibitions, it also offers a wide range of supporting and educational programs with a focus on creative work in an area of around 900 m². The Künstlerhaus Vereinigung (Künstlerhaus Association) also seeks to make contemporary art accessible to all.
The hotel’s event rooms, called “Factory” (200 m²) and “Salon Karlsplatz” (the former Ranftlzimmer) enhance what the hotel has to offer. As well as events accompanying the exhibitions and international film series in the Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, there are also regular DJ lines and pop concerts. Art lovers can indulge themselves at Ludwig und Adele.
What’s more, a museum for contemporary art has found a home in the Künstlerhaus – the Albertina modern also exhibits international artists alongside greats of Austrian art in temporary exhibitions. NEST, an offshoot of the Vienna State Opera, offers a program aimed specifically at children and young people.
