Garden at Glacis Beisl

Hidden guest gardens

Because they can't be seen from the street, it's possible to almost walk right past some of Vienna's prettiest dining gardens. Such as those in the MuseumsQuartier. The Glacis Beisl isn't very easy to find because it's located at the back of the MuseumsQuartier. Waiting to be enjoyed there are a relaxed dining garden with chestnut trees, climbing plants, splashing fountains and Viennese cuisine.

The Amerlingbeisl on Spittelberg offers a Biedermeier idyll worth seeing: sit in the courtyard surrounded by old pergolas (courtyard gallery) and under a dense canopy of ivy. The Weinstube Josefstadt is a hidden green oasis offering wine tavern flair in the heart of the city. Virginia creeper, fountains, a Salettl pavilion and a good glass of wine set the right mood.

The sophisticated Viennese cuisine is happily combined with the flair of the typical Viennese courtyard. A delight for the eyes is the garden of Schreiners Gastwirtschaft with its historic Salettl pavilion and a natural flower meadow, where marguerites bloom in spring. The garden of the Silberwirt is hidden in the Schlossquadrat, a complex of buildings from the Biedermeier period with a maze of small inner courtyards. Diners at Wiener Gastwirtschaft im Durchhaus can enjoy their meal beneath a leafy green canopy. The name Durchhaus (“passageway”) actually refers to the interior courtyard.

The courtyard of the Mill has an especially sophisticated design. The garden radiates the most magnificent colors, with décor and interior from Asia. The walls are painted in pink and orange, the plants are as varied as in a florist's shop. The menu focuses on Viennese cuisine.

A green oasis is also hidden behind the walls of Palais Coburg. Guests can experience the magic of the palace garden with its plane trees, magnolias and a babbling pond in front of a historic backdrop on a visit to the restaurant "Clementine im Glashaus". The Geschmackstempel specializes in contemporary, regional cuisine with a modern touch. Not only the charming, peaceful outdoor dining area lies within a hidden courtyard, but also the entire restaurant.

The inner courtyard of the Ringstrasse restaurant Salonplafond at MAK is purist in style. The dining garden is adjacent to large meadow - a rarity in the city. Guests can also make themselves comfortable here in the loungers arranged in the shade of a large tree. The Gartencafé also offers a delightful green space and a large meadow. The spacious garden is an inviting place to relax with traditional Viennese cuisine. A secret tip! An oasis in the middle of the city center is Café Diglas in Schottenstift Abbey. Large chestnut trees provide shade in the outdoor dining area situated in the courtyard of Schottenstift Abbey. Far from the hustle and bustle outside, you'll feel like you're in paradise here. You could walk right past and never know it's there.
