A vintage way to stay the night

Sleeping in a dream made of vintage – that's so easy to do in Vienna. More and more hotels have devoted themselves to the topic of vintage in recent years. From the easy urban living concept to a social business to the classic hotel. Vienna proves how diverse vintage can be.

Off to the Grätzl – Grätzlhotel

The Viennese love their Grätzl (part of residential district, a road or a block of houses). So what could be nicer than to feel like a real Viennese on vacation? – Nothing! That's why the Grätzlhotel hits the right nerve with its Easy Urban Living concept. A total of three Grätzl (Belvedere/4th district, Karmelitermarkt/2nd district and Meidlinger Markt/12th district) currently offer unique suites with fantastic names like "Die Lampenmacherin" (The Lampmaker), "Der Trafikant" (The Tobacconist) and "Die Knopfmacherin" (The Buttonmaker). What's more, the names weren't chosen at random, rather each suite was once a business or store in its former life. That's why all of the rooms are aways accessible straight off the street or through a typical Viennese courtyard. So, off you go to the Grätzl to become Viennese for a while.

Brilliant and yet within budget – Hotel am Brillantengrund

As the name suggests, a secret vintage diamond is tucked away here in the middle of the 7th district. The Hotel am Brillantengrund does everything a bit differently than other hotels. And that's not only a good thing but above all the recipe for its success. Each of the 32 individually designed rooms whisks us away to a different decade. It might also be this charm that drew famous singers like Jamie Lidell or the son of Bob Marley, Julian Marley, to the Hotel am Brillantengrund. What's more, this gem is not at all expensive, the rooms being good value despite the super-central location.

New Kid on the "Neubau" Block – Max Brown 7th District

The playful mix of vintage and modern design gets retro hearts beating faster. The Max Brown 7th District is the newcomer among the vintage hotels. The hotel opened in 2019, in the best 7th district (Neubau) Bobo creative art location. The green façade with the Biedermeier look of the 19th century fits perfectly into its surroundings. The Max Brown also lets colors play inside. Just as inspired is the cuisine of head chef Eyal Shani from Israel. He reinterprets Mediterranean cuisine in his restaurant "Seven North".

The social business with a heart and lots of vintage upcycling – magdas Hotel

Want to go on vacation and do something good at the same time? At the magdas Hotel Vienna City in the 3rd district, that's very easy to do. The magdas was founded in 2015 as Austria's first social business hotel. It employs former refugees, helping them to learn a profession and find their feet in Vienna. Originally situated in the 2nd district, the magdas Hotel relocated to the 3rd district in October 2022. A former priest's residence from the 1960s was designed by artist and designer Daniel Büchel from Vorarlberg and the architecture office BWM with a mix of new and old furnishings (keyword: vintage, recycling and upcycling). A hotel like no other.

Viennese Tradition and Modernism – Hotel Schani Salon

The Hotel Schani Salon is located in the middle of the "Mahü", as the Viennese lovingly call their Mariahilfer Strasse. Here, in the heart of the city, stands a jewel of Vienna Modernism. Because the Schani Salon has 24 rooms that deal with Vienna around 1900. From Sigmund Freud to Otto Wagner and Emilie Flöge – history comes alive here.

Come as you are – 25hours Hotel at MuseumsQuartier

The 25hours Hotel greets guests with "Come as you are" in large neon letters. It's a serious invitation because the maxim here is: arrive and feel good. A relaxed hotel near the MuseumsQuartier, which invites guests to dream and plays with elements from the circus world. Kiosk and lounge set the design direction: relaxed, cozy and authentic. A hotel that subtly indulges in the finer things of life.
