Bar from inside

Donau

The Donau is unique in Vienna for several reasons: guests can listen to electronic dance music from some of the hottest underground DJs in the capital over relatively inexpensive drinks and excellent cocktails, seven days a week. The range of genres is diverse: Techno is presented in all its types and facets - whether Minimal, House or Dubstep. Donau also offers a sophisticated type of light show, as the entire space is illuminated with a giant slide projection, which changes daily. The architecture with the columns as well as the bar and acoustic insulation on the ceiling are worth a look.

If you're feeling peckish, there's no need to walk on by, but walk on up to the bar's own sausage stand, lovingly called the "Messepalast" ("Fair Palace"). On sale are smaller snacks and sweets, as well as various types of sausage, for which Vienna and its sausage stands are famous. Due to the very pleasant atmosphere and the relaxed way the waiters look after the guests, visitors often feel like they are in an extended living room. However, finding the bar is not so simple: Donau lies well hidden behind a grey metal door in a side street between Mariahilferstraße and the MuseumsQuartier. But those who do find it won't believe their eyes and ears when they step inside.
