Michelin Star restaurants

Viennese cuisine is renowned all over the world and enjoys an excellent international reputation. Traditionally, Viennese gourmet culture can be found in down-to-earth bistros (called a Wiener Beisl). Viennese cuisine, with its long tradition that has shaped the city’s identity, also impresses with the innovative flavors of a modern metropolis. This has once again been confirmed by the Michelin Guide awards. The latest Michelin stars for Vienna were presented on January 21, 2025 as part of the new Austrian edition of the Michelin Guide. High-end gastronomy also draws on Viennese cuisine, modernizing and perfecting it to the highest level.

Viennese cuisine, or Wiener Küche, is the only type of cooking in the world that is named after a city.

The Steirereck and the Amador restaurants in Vienna are Austria’s only three-star restaurants. Birgit and Heinz Reitbauer’s Steirereck is even ranked 33rd in the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants”. New interpretations of old recipes and almost forgotten ingredients from local cuisine make the dishes at Steirereck something truly special. The Silvio Nickol Gourmet Restaurant in the Palais Coburg, the Konstantin Filippou restaurant, Mraz & Sohn and Doubek are also in a league of their own; all four have been awarded two stars each by the Michelin Guide.

The Apron restaurant and Pramerl & The Wolf, which looks like an inconspicuous bistro from the outside, each have one Michelin star. The exciting, contemporary cuisine at Aend, the Mediterranean-inspired dishes at Restaurant Edvard in the Hotel Ananatara, Alexander Kumptner’s Esszimmer, Restaurant Herzig, Z’SOM with its Latin American influences and the strictly vegetarian cuisine at Tian were also each awarded one Michelin star. The Tian also holds a green Michelin star.

In the Bib Gourmand category, the Michelin Guide also recognizes restaurants that offer exceptional value for money.
