Künstlerhaus

New old splendor

It is a place of dialog, discourse and the presentation of contemporary art. And the name says it all because the Künstlerhaus is made by and for artists. After a three-year pause for refurbishment, it returns to Karlsplatz at the beginning of 2020 to show exhibitions as well as a diverse supporting and educational program that focuses on creative works on an area of around 900 m². The association is also concerned about making contemporary art accessible to everyone.

The new event spaces "Factory" (200 m²) and "Salon Karlsplatz" (the former Ranftlzimmer) expand the offering. In addition to supporting events on the exhibition, and international film series at the Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, there are regular DJ line-ups and pop concerts. The art hungry can get their fill at Ludwig und Adele. Events, largely masterminded by young artists, are also held in the gallery located by the exit to the subway mall (Künstlerhaus-Passagegalerie).

In addition, a new museum of contemporary art has moved into the Künstlerhaus: the Albertina modern shows the greats of Austrian art as well as international artists in temporary exhibitions.

Off into the future - the exhibition for the reopening

With the title "Alles war klar!" (means "Everything was clear!") the Künstlerhaus ushers in a new epoch. For the first time in the history of the association, not the entire building is used, but the upper floor including the newly built factory. It is also clear that this new foundation calls for a very special show. National and international artists have taken this event as an opportunity to react to it with their very own methods of analysis, abstraction, transformation, distraction and escapism. In this way, the doors for the refoundation of the Künstlerhaus from the ambivalent past to the present and for a future are to be opened wide.

Alles war klar!
