Vegetarian Dining

Opposite the Ronacher, the TIAN Restaurant Wien presents the highest standard of meatless cuisine in all its variety. The menu reads like a stroll through a vegetable garden. Chef Paul Ivic transforms fairly produced and organic products, including nearly forgotten types of vegetables, fruit and grains, into spectacularly refined dishes. Ivic also believes it is very important not to throw anything away and experiments a lot with all parts of the vegetable, from root to leaf. The TIAN has been awarded with a star by the Michelin Guide for its wonderful cuisine. It thus ranks among the world's best vegetarian restaurants.

TIAN offers uncomplicated vegetarian (and also vegan) cuisine with its bistro concept: at the TIAN Bistro am Spittelberg, you'll find wonderful vegetarian and vegan dishes for sharing that are served in the center of the table. Simple, yet refined cuisine.

In the basement of the Künstlerhaus, where the Albertina modern is located, cooking also takes place. The fine dining restaurant is called Hausbar. There are two multi-course menus – one vegetarian and one vegan. And all in the very best style. Regionality and seasonality are a matter of course.

Another tip for vegetarian cuisine is &flora in the Hotel Gilbert. Meat is also served here, but the focus is clearly on vegetarian dishes. Colorful, light cuisine with international influences, in which meat is served at most as a side order.

bistro called Rosi specializes in vegetarian cuisine. Which is somewhat surprising, given that the menu at a Viennese bistro (called a Beisl) is usually centered around meat. This makes the modern vegetable cuisine served here all the more remarkable.

Wholefoods and vegetarian dishes have been served at the Lebenbauer for more than 20 years. They show you how creative and varied healthy cooking can taste. Great wines are also offered in the restaurant's elegant ambience.

Wrenkh was originally known for its sophisticated vegetarian cuisine. Now there is also a seasonal meat and fish dish on the menu, because the Wrenkh brothers cook for everyone, without prejudice. The vegetarian and vegan dishes are still among the best in the city, and casual fine dining is an option in the evenings.

Restaurant Schwein on Siebensternplatz serves anything other than meat. Pigs (in German: Schwein) appear in name only on the menu here, which is what the restaurant’s tongue-in-cheek name refers to. The menu also showcases what contemporary meat-free cuisine looks like in a modern setting.

Hollerei in the 15th district may be some distance from the city center, but the excellent food makes it well worth a detour. The cuisine here is also primarily organic. The dishes are inspired by Asian and Mediterranean cuisine and are served in a cozy pub atmosphere; in summer, there is also a beautiful, shaded garden to dine in.

The Goldstück offers soups, stews, salads, sandwiches and exciting vegetable dishes – all of which are completely vegetarian and even vegan on request. The ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally. The owners also set great store by sustainability. They follow a zero-waste approach to cooking and use fruit and vegetables that no one else wants, while every part of the plant from leaf to root is used. And all this in a cozy café atmosphere.

Naturkost St. Josef is Vienna's pioneer when it comes to purely vegetarian and organic cuisine. Attached to an organic food store, this restaurant at the heart of the creative district of Neubau serves a lunch plate, soups and all kinds of delicacies from an unparalleled salad buffet. Naturkost St. Josef is also known especially for its creative salads.

Karma Food specializes in healthy and tasty lunch dishes. There are curries, dal and colorful bowls – in vegetarian or vegan versions. Enjoy a sweet treat with your coffee from their in-house roastery called Karma Coffee.
